Green Birthday Card

Image
OK so I haven't been feeling very inspired or creative this week. I thought I'd just muck about with some scraps I have and see what I get. Well It's not great! I ended up with a very green themed birthday card. Oh well, got to keep crafting right?? Here it is.... I started by using some scrap pieces of card that I had tried some foiling techniques on. I first used the one with a white background and stenciled over it with Ranger Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers. Next I die cut some dimensional flowers from the green foiled background. I pushed the petals upwards and create my flowers. Next I stuck a piece of white paper onto a green card for my background. Then I used double sided tape the adhere some black ribbon 2/3rds of the way down on my stenciled panel. I used craft foam to stick this onto my white and green background and then used super glue to stick my flowers at the bottom. I wanted to try die cutting from foam so I used black craft f

Pop & Lift Card

Image
Hi all. after a few days of feeling ill I'm feeling much better today. I spent yesterday and today trialing and making a card that has two functions. It is a pop-up that pops up and lifts as you open the card. Super easy to make once you've worked out the mechanics and the measurements!! OK lets get into it!! My card is going to be a 14cm by 14cm square card. First your going to want to measure and draw out the mechanism from a fairly thick card. (I used 300gsm red cardstock for mine.) I first had to work out the dimensions of this mechanism and you'll see from a few pics that it is white. This was prototype C!!! Here is my base template, which I have kept for easy tracing the next time I want to make a card like this. Sorry if you can't read my handwriting. The very top length says 4.7cm. You can see where I drew in the wrong angle and had to cross it out!! This triangular angle is 45 degrees and the apex will be slightly off the edge. This side of yo

Get well Note card

Image
Today I'm feeling a bit under the weather so I just whipped up a very quick and cute Get Well Soon card. I'm just going to bullet point the construction of this note card today. 250gsm navy cardstock folded in half. Circle die cut over both sides leaving the top uncut. Used a smaller circle die to cut 250gsm white cardstock.  Embossed the white circle with a rain and umbrella themed embossing folder. Covered up sentiment on a cute teddy bear stamp with painters masking tape on clear stamp.   Ink and remove tape then stamp image. Hand wrote 'Get Well Soon' into bears empty sign and coloured in with alcohol markers.  Stuck bear onto white embossed card and then stuck this onto craft foam circle. Lastly adhered this  front of navy note card. That's it done. I'm off to rest up now. Thanks for stopping by.

Twist Pop-up

Image
For today's card I wanted to try something I haven't done before. I've seen some really neat videos on twisting pop-up cards and I thought I'd give it a go. Now if you haven't tried these yet I will say be patient and try it with scraps first. I think I'll be looking into getting template dies for this style of card. First I cut all my basic elements for this card. I used 250gsm cardstock for every aspect. I cut the main body of the card and an identical card from light blue card as well. These will become the outside and inside of my finished card. Next I cut a long strip of card 5cm shorter than the total length of the card it's self. This strip is the twisting mechanism I will use for the card. Next I worked on the mechanism by first scoring three lines. One through the center of the strip (the longest length) and two at 45degree angles through the center point of the strip. Next I folded along all lines and then began constructing the mechanism.

Bon Voyage!

Today I wanted to create a cute card using some penguin stamps. I started off this card thinking it would be a birthday card, but it turned into a farewell one. I started by stamping and colouring in my penguins with alcohol markers. Next I die cut a circle from my front panel. I then inked up a piece of laminated sheet (I used this for most of my inking work as it is a nonporous surface.) with Distress Ink in Broken China. I used a water-brush to pick up the colour and apply it the the circle. I also used a combination of Tumbled Glass and Weathered Wood using the same method. I kept adding colour till I was happy with the result. I let this dry naturally as I didn't want it to curl. Once dry I stuck this as well as my penguins onto a blue top-fold 250gsm navy card. I then drew and coloured in some balloons. I carefully mounted my white panel (the one with the circle cut-out) on top of my navy card.  I then used some scrap paper and hand wrote 'Bon Voyage' o

Art Journal - Stop and smell the flowers

Image
For this art journal entry I wanted to remind myself that it's important to take time and just relax. Have a coffee, watch a movie or go for a walk. What ever you do, remember to take a step back and enjoy the moment. We get so caught up in everyday routine that we forget there's a whole world out there. Sometimes I know I want to create an art journal entry, or a greeting card or something crafty but, nothing brings me joy, sparks inspiration or motivates me to do it. This is when I stop and take a step back. Go do something else and enjoy taking that time away. OK rant over let's get into it. First I used a combination of acrylic & water, mixed in a spritz bottle, to put my base green colour onto my page. Then couldn't find the inspiration to do anything with it. It's OK if this happens. Just walk away and revisit it later! I found I now had a green page. I hadn't broken my page just made it even harder to work with. So I used a wood-grain stam
