DIY Bookmarks



Today I wanted to create something different. I didn't feel inspired to do any art journalism or to make a card. I want to say at this point that this is a short craft project and super simple to make.

 I wasn't sure what I was going to be making, but I started off by stamping a cute wee dragon from the Magical Dragon by My Favorite Things. I used alcohol markers to colour in my dragon. Then I added metallic touches to his horns and wings. Next I added green glitter to his belly to add a bit more interest to the image. At this point I was stuck. I have a cute dragon, but what am I going to do with him?



 I was looking at my embellishments and saw my giant metallic paperclips and yes I had a green one. So my dragon will become a bookmark!

Form here I I cut him out and stuck him onto another piece of 250gsm white cardstock. I did this because when you use alcohol markers the bleed towards the back of the page and I didn't want to see this from the back side of the bookmark. I waited till the blue had dried and cut him out again.

Last of all I used super glue to stick him onto the top end of my paperclip. Once dry he was ready to be used! OK so it's not going to be a super sturdy bookmark, and won't last for ever, but could be a fun project for kids to do or even as a added extra to a book your gifting.

I enjoyed this quick craft so much that I and went ahead and made a coffee cup bookmark as well. I think next time I would use my Xyron to laminate the image before gluing it to the paperclip. This may help it last a bit longer.
Of course you could use all sorts of things to create cute bookmarks this way. Fake flowers, photos, free online images, stickers..... Just make sure you use a metal bonding glue. Green Birthday Card

  OK so I haven't been feeling very inspired or creative this week. I thought I'd just muck about with some scraps I have and see what I get. Well It's not great! I ended up with a very green themed birthday card. Oh well, got to keep crafting right?? Here it is.... I started by using some scrap pieces of card that I had tried some foiling techniques on. I first used the one with a white background and stenciled over it with Ranger Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers. Next I die cut some dimensional flowers from the green foiled background. Twist Pop-up

For today's card I wanted to try something I haven't done before. I've seen some really neat videos on twisting pop-up cards and I thought I'd give it a go. Now if you haven't tried these yet I will say be patient and try it with scraps first. I think I'll be looking into getting template dies for this style of card. First I cut all my basic elements for this card. I used 250gsm cardstock for every aspect. I cut the main body of the card and an identical card from light blue card as well. These will become the outside and inside of my finished card. Next I cut a long strip of card 5cm shorter than the total length of the card it's self. This strip is the twisting mechanism I will use for the card. Next I worked on the mechanism by first scoring three lines. One through the center of the strip (the longest length) and two at 45degree angles through the center point of the strip. Next I folded along all lines and then began constructing the mechanism....

Art Journal - Stop and smell the flowers

For this art journal entry I wanted to remind myself that it's important to take time and just relax. Have a coffee, watch a movie or go for a walk. What ever you do, remember to take a step back and enjoy the moment. We get so caught up in everyday routine that we forget there's a whole world out there. Sometimes I know I want to create an art journal entry, or a greeting card or something crafty but, nothing brings me joy, sparks inspiration or motivates me to do it. This is when I stop and take a step back. Go do something else and enjoy taking that time away. OK rant over let's get into it. First I used a combination of acrylic & water, mixed in a spritz bottle, to put my base green colour onto my page. Then couldn't find the inspiration to do anything with it. It's OK if this happens.
