Art Journal - Tweet, tweet



Hi all. I thought I'd share an art journal that  I just created. Art journalism is a new concept to me so sorry if it looks awful. It's a 'learn as you go' thing for me. I've done a few I like and some not so much. Feeling undecided about this one. I may have to have another crack at a similar theme in the future.

When I start a new journal page I never know where it will take me so I never plan anything before hand. I usual pick colours and away I go. I like to say that 'colour is my muse.'

For today journal I started by spraying my page with acrylic and water mixed paints.Once I was happy with the colour and drips I sprayed a sliver acrylic paint very lightly over the top to add shine.

Next I went over the page with black gesso and a floral stencil to add texture and dimension to the background. (I used a little too much in a few places!) While waiting for this to dry I moved onto cutting out some flowers using my Sizzix Bigz flower die and two other random flower dies in my collection.
I used scraps of patterned and glitter paper for my flowers. I don't think I would use the glitter paper for another project like this tho. It just felt like those flowers were out of place. I adhered them to my page using 3M Spray Adhesive. (Quick and easy!)


  Next I drew some odd-looking birds and used the same acrylic-water spray to colour them in. Using an orange alcohol marker for their beaks. Yep, I used that super sticky spray adhesive for them as well.

Next I used black alcohol marker to draw some super long legs and added a bit of shading using orange paint.I would not do this again!! I ended-up having to go over them with black paint as I went all over the place with my markers. (for next time one word: RULER!) Next I tried to add shading to the bottoms of my birdies. I used too much paint and then tried to wipe it off and made an even bigger mess of it. Ah well, like I said it's 'learn-as-I-go' process when it comes to art journals.



I used a scrap piece of paper and hand wrote a line from the song 'Rockin' Robin.' Next I used some Ranger Distress Ink in Broken China and Picked Raspberry to go over some flowers and add some shading to the background.  Well that's it for me. While I'm not particularly fond of this art journal entry I still love my colour choices, ideas and most importantly I had fun.

Green Birthday Card

  OK so I haven't been feeling very inspired or creative this week. I thought I'd just muck about with some scraps I have and see what I get. Well It's not great! I ended up with a very green themed birthday card. Oh well, got to keep crafting right?? Here it is.... I started by using some scrap pieces of card that I had tried some foiling techniques on. I first used the one with a white background and stenciled over it with Ranger Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers. Next I die cut some dimensional flowers from the green foiled background. I pushed the petals upwards and create my flowers. Next I stuck a piece of white paper onto a green card for my background. Then I used double sided tape the adhere some black ribbon 2/3rds of the way down on my stenciled panel. Twist Pop-up

For today's card I wanted to try something I haven't done before. I've seen some really neat videos on twisting pop-up cards and I thought I'd give it a go. Now if you haven't tried these yet I will say be patient and try it with scraps first. I think I'll be looking into getting template dies for this style of card. First I cut all my basic elements for this card. I used 250gsm cardstock for every aspect. I cut the main body of the card and an identical card from light blue card as well. These will become the outside and inside of my finished card. Next I cut a long strip of card 5cm shorter than the total length of the card it's self. This strip is the twisting mechanism I will use for the card. Next I worked on the mechanism by first scoring three lines. One through the center of the strip (the longest length) and two at 45degree angles through the center point of the strip. Next I folded along all lines and then began constructing the mechanism.

Art Journal - Stop and smell the flowers

For this art journal entry I wanted to remind myself that it's important to take time and just relax. Have a coffee, watch a movie or go for a walk. What ever you do, remember to take a step back and enjoy the moment. We get so caught up in everyday routine that we forget there's a whole world out there. Sometimes I know I want to create an art journal entry, or a greeting card or something crafty but, nothing brings me joy, sparks inspiration or motivates me to do it. This is when I stop and take a step back. Go do something else and enjoy taking that time away. OK rant over let's get into it. First I used a combination of acrylic & water, mixed in a spritz bottle, to put my base green colour onto my page. Then couldn't find the inspiration to do anything with it. It's OK if this happens. Just walk away and revisit it later! I found I now had a green page. I hadn't broken my page just made it even harder to work with. So I used a wood-grain stam
